Genetics for Dog Breeders PDF Download

Genetics for Dog Breeders PDF
By:Roy Robinson
Published on 1990 by Butterworth-Heinemann Medical

The findings of a decade of further investigation into the genetics of dog breeding have been incorporated into this new edition of a classic source of information for breeders. Early chapters outline the basic principles of heredity, illustrated by examples from the dog. Modern methods of animal improvement which can be called upon to further the aims of dog breeding are also discussed. The chapters on colour and coat variation, genetics of breeds, and abnormalities heve been extensively rewritten in the light of new findings. Many outstanding problems of breed genotypes have been resolved, but at the same time numerous genetic anomalies have been identified through greater genetic awareness and attempts to secure breeding data. The descriptive summaries of these abnormalities, substantially documented, make this book a useful reference source for the identification of known genetic anomalies.

Computational Biomechanics PDF
By:Kozaburo Hayashi,Hiromasa Ishikawa
Published on 2012-12-06 by Springer Science & Business Media

The combination of readily available computing power and progress in numerical techniques has made nonlinear systems - the kind that only a few years ago were ignored as too complex - open to analysis for the first time. Now realistic models of living systems incorporating the nonlinear variation and anisotropic nature of physical properties can be solved numerically on modern computers to give realistically usable results. This has opened up new and exciting possibilities for the fusing of ideas from physiology and engineering in the burgeoning new field that is biomechanics. Computational Biomechanics presents pioneering work focusing on the areas of orthopedic and circulatory mechanics, using experimental results to confirm or improve the relevant mathematical models and parameters. Together with two companion volumes, Biomechanics: Functional Adaptation and Remodeling and the Data Book on Mechanical Properties of Living Cells, Tissues, and Organs, this monograph will prove invaluable to those working in fields ranging from medical science and clinical medicine to biomedical engineering and applied mechanics.

Crossing the Quality Chasm PDF
By:Institute of Medicine,Committee on Quality of Health Care in America
Published on 2001-08-19 by National Academies Press

Second in a series of publications from the Institute of Medicine's Quality of Health Care in America project Today's health care providers have more research findings and more technology available to them than ever before. Yet recent reports have raised serious doubts about the quality of health care in America. Crossing the Quality Chasm makes an urgent call for fundamental change to close the quality gap. This book recommends a sweeping redesign of the American health care system and provides overarching principles for specific direction for policymakers, health care leaders, clinicians, regulators, purchasers, and others. In this comprehensive volume the committee offers: A set of performance expectations for the 21st century health care system. A set of 10 new rules to guide patient-clinician relationships. A suggested organizing framework to better align the incentives inherent in payment and accountability with improvements in quality. Key steps to promote evidence-based practice and strengthen clinical information systems. Analyzing health care organizations as complex systems, Crossing the Quality Chasm also documents the causes of the quality gap, identifies current practices that impede quality care, and explores how systems approaches can be used to implement change.

By:National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Health and Medicine Division,Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice,Committee on Community-Based Solutions to Promote Health Equity in the United States
Published on 2017-04-27 by National Academies Press

In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual’s health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.

Book Hypnosis PDF Free

Hypnosis PDF
By:Nicholas P. Spanos
Published on 1989 by

Today, many advocates of hypnosis claim for it significant therapeutic benefits as an anesthetic, a method for controlling labor pains, an element in the treatment of dermatological conditions, and a way of gaining relief from certain types of chronic illness. But all such claims presuppose that the advocates of hypnosis are correct in assuming the existence of a |trance state| in which these phenomena can take place, and in their beliefs about just how susceptible the general population is to being hypnotized. It would seem, therefore, that even before one gets to the therapeutic claims, these prior assumptions and beliefs must be critically evaluated. Hypnosis: The Cognitive-Behavioral Perspective brings together the work of twenty researchers who seek to analyze the evidence for hypnotic susceptibility, trance states, nonvoluntary behavior, posthypnotic amnesia, the perceptual effects of hypnosis (temporal and otherwise), and more. Throughout these essays the experience of hypnosis is placed within a social psychological context, which the editors believe more accurately explains the phenomena by comparing it to other individual and social behavior. In addition, this fascinating volume discusses socio-political factors affecting popular and clinical attitudes toward hypnosis and offers suggestions regarding future research. The scope of this comprehensive sourcebook makes it an ideal research tool and a handy reference guide for those exploring experimental and theoretical issues as well as the clinical applications of hypnosis.

Book Brief Cognitive Hypnosis PDF Free

Brief Cognitive Hypnosis PDF
By:Jordan Zarren, MSW, DAHB,Bruce Eimer, PhD, ABPP
Published on 2001-11-16 by Springer Publishing Company

ìBrief Cognitive Hypnosis gives a unique and refreshing presentation of various applications of hypnosis in clinical practice. Most importantly this book focuses on brief clinical interventions which are both effacacious and cost effective. The authors clearly describe a number of techniques for correcting dysfunctional behaviors such as irritating and/or self-destructive habits, ameliorating anxiety disorders, treating pain, and managing troublesome side effects of various medical treatments and procedures. I highly recommend this book as a valuable resource for all clinicians who are faced with helping their patients deal with such problems.î - Edward J. Frischholz, PhD, Fellow and Past-President Divison 30 (Society for Psychological Hypnosis) American Psychological Association Past-Editor, American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis Fellow and Approved Consultant, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis ìI wish I had said that. This book is clear, accurate, and explicated in a way that is indisputably better than any other texts on clinical hypnosis that Iíve read.î - Dabney M. Ewin, MD, ABMH Past President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Hypnosis ì[This book] is a magical addition to the field of Clinical Hypnosis. Two distinguished Board Certified Clinicians with over sixty years of combined clinical experience have provided a delightful book that will not only add to the experienced cliniciansí skills, but provide a straightforward and practical approach for the neophyte in hypnosis.î - William C. Wester, EdD, ABPP, ABPH Past President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis ìThis is a valuable book for clinicians. It is highly practical, ëuser friendlyí, and explicates rapid treatment methods for the range of problems most commonly seen in our offices. I definitely recommend it.î - D. Corydon Hammond, PhD, ABPH Past President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis Professor University of Utah School of Medicine ì...Zarren and Eimer integrate traditional psychodynamic models of the unconscious and symptom-formation with modern cognitive theory, the outcome of which is a new model for the change process in therapy. With lucid description of their clinical methods and rich case illustrations the authors show how the hypnotic trance, along with careful attention to the wording of the hypnotic scripts, enable the patient to open to the possibility of genuine change.î - Daniel Brown, PhD, ABPH Professor, Harvard Medical School and Simmons School of Social Work, Boston, Massachusetts
